What We Have Done in Past Years

March 2015

A new command I give you: Love one another as I have loved you.  — John 13:34

In Storytime, children learned the story of The Last Supper.  At the last meal that Jesus share with His disciples, he institutes communion and the New Commandment to “love one another as I have loved you.”

In Crafts, children made prayer bead necklaces.  Each time the child performs an act of love, (s)he moves a bead toward the cross.  In loving other, our hearts grow closer to Jesus.

For our Service Project, all children made cards for our shut-ins.  Younger children assembled hygiene kits to be donated to Shepherd of the Streets and given to homeless individuals in our community.  Older children made tied fleece blankets to be donated to the Gatehouse at Susquehanna Hospice.

Children also enjoyed games and songs, and made soft pretzels, learning that the pretzel shape resembles arms crossed over the chest in prayer.

Pretzel Prayer:  We fold our hands across our chest and ask You, Lord, our food to bless.  In everything we say and do, may we strive to honor You.

Children attending Messiah’s Kids in Mission offer gifts of hope and peace to the local community.

Care Packages for Shepherd of the Streets clientele contain tissues, lip balm, hand sanitizer, a comb, and a toothbrush packaged in side a pair of warm socks.

Tied fleece blankets were donated to hospice care patients at the Gatehouse.

March 2014

Children were invited to write their names on the cross while they learned during storytime of the great love that Jesus has for us . . . so great that he gave His very life for us . . . Jesus loves us, no matter what, and His love cannot be measured.

Our joyful response to that good news is to share God’s love with others through word and service.

As they learned about prayer, children made soft pretzels and an “Empty Tomb” Dish Garden that they could take home with them to remind them of the Easter Story.
